City Corner Residence
City Corner Residence is an award-winning residential interior design project that exemplifies the sophisticated integration of Vintage Industrial Style within a challenging spatial context. Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, this 100-square-meter dwelling showcases innovative solutions to overcome spatial constraints and lighting limitations through thoughtful architectural interventions and material selections. The design, conceived by Chen-Yu Chiu, demonstrates exceptional space optimization through strategic layout reconfiguration, including the reorientation of the kitchen and master bedroom, and the implementation of enlarged windows to maximize natural light penetration. The project's material palette incorporates woodgrain tiles, OSB solid wood fiberboard, black matte roasted iron, and gray glass, creating a harmonious blend that reflects the rustic aesthetics of industrial design while maintaining contemporary functionality. Notable design elements include hollow storage cabinets that serve dual purposes as space partitions and light-permeable barriers, custom-designed hidden doors, and flexible storage solutions that enhance the space's utility without compromising its aesthetic coherence. The interior's color scheme employs Morandi tones combined with natural wood elements and industrial materials, establishing a calm and sophisticated atmosphere that balances functionality with aesthetic appeal. Completed in 2020, this residential project earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, receiving an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial design and material application. The design successfully transforms a long, narrow space into a cohesive living environment that emphasizes natural light, circulation efficiency, and storage optimization while maintaining the authentic character of industrial design elements.
