Chu Yan Restaurant is an exemplary architectural and interior design achievement located at the historic Shiliupu Wharf on Shanghai's iconic Bund, embodying a sophisticated fusion of Chinese cultural heritage with contemporary design sensibilities. This 2,500-square-meter establishment, completed in 2019, represents a masterful transformation of a 150-year-old structure into a modern dining venue that serves as both a culinary destination and a cultural sanctuary. The design concept draws profound inspiration from the Book of Songs' banquet poems, manifesting through an innovative ceiling design that mimics an unfolding Chinese scroll, creating a continuous visual narrative throughout the space. The restaurant's architectural elements incorporate sophisticated material choices, including environmentally conscious artificial marble and advanced acoustic solutions such as sound-absorbing panels and specialized coatings, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and guest comfort. The interior features a striking LED wall at the entrance displaying real-time views of the Huangpu River, while the spatial organization thoughtfully separates various functional zones including private dining areas and waiting spaces. The design team ingeniously addressed structural challenges, particularly in managing low beam heights, through the implementation of corrugated materials and strategic use of natural gray and wood-grain marble wall treatments to create visual expansion.
