Christine Boumeester

Christine Boumeester (1926-2019) was a Dutch artist who made significant contributions to the development of abstract expressionism in the Netherlands. Her works often reflect her interest in the intersection of art and science, as well as her fascination with light and color. Boumeester's artistic career spanned several decades and was marked by numerous solo and group exhibitions in prestigious galleries and museums across Europe. Boumeester's early works were characterized by a strong interest in geometric abstraction, which she explored through a variety of media including painting, sculpture, and printmaking. In the 1960s, she began to shift towards a more organic and gestural style, which she continued to develop throughout the rest of her career. Her later works often featured bold, expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors, which she used to create dynamic compositions that evoke a sense of movement and energy. Throughout her career, Boumeester was deeply committed to exploring the relationship between art and science. She was particularly interested in the ways in which scientific discoveries could inspire new forms of artistic expression, and often incorporated scientific themes and motifs into her work. For example, her series of paintings inspired by the structure of DNA, which she created in the 1970s, are widely regarded as some of her most innovative and groundbreaking works. Despite her many achievements, Boumeester remained humble and dedicated to her craft throughout her life. She continued to create art well into her later years, and her work continues to inspire and influence artists around the world.
