Chez Shibata 3rd Patisserie Shop Patisserie Shop is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the fusion of French patisserie tradition with contemporary Japanese design principles, completed in Shanghai in 2017. This 200-square-meter establishment represents a sophisticated interpretation of a professional pastry workshop, conceptualized as Laboratory Shibata, a Modified Paris Workshop by renowned Japanese architectural designer Iwao Furusho. The space demonstrates exceptional efficiency through its intricate integration of nine distinct functional areas, harmoniously coexisting within the limited footprint. A distinguishing architectural feature is the northern façade, which incorporates 23 high-functional iron frame French windows, each measuring 0.8 meters in width and 3.5 meters in height, serving various purposes from fixed panels to entrance ways and folding doors. The material selection reflects both pragmatic and aesthetic considerations, utilizing concrete perforated bricks, wire laths, epoxy flooring, terrazzo, and steel plates to create an authentic workshop atmosphere while ensuring durability and cost-effectiveness. The design's multifunctional approach is particularly evident in its pastry class space, which ingeniously transforms to serve as an eat-in area, kitchen, and exhibition zone. This project, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases an exceptional balance between functional efficiency and aesthetic refinement, demonstrating how contemporary retail spaces can successfully integrate multiple operational requirements while maintaining a cohesive design narrative.
