Cheyney Thompson

Cheyney Thompson is an acclaimed American artist based in New York City. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions around the world, including the Whitney Biennial and in 2020 at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami. He works across media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, film and video. His works are often based on research into processes of social and political control, both in the past and in the present. One of his most notable works is the painting series ‘Police Paintings’ (2004), which examines the wide-ranging effects of the US police force. Other notable works include the short film ‘Fallen Trees’ (2012) and the ongoing series of collages ‘Fruit and Monument’ (2007-ongoing). Cheyney Thompson’s work draws attention to how political systems shape our understanding of identity and power, as well as to the ways in which contemporary art can foster critical dialogue.
