Chaim Soutine
Chaim Soutine was a renowned 20th century French artist, known for his emotionally charged expressionistic paintings of landscapes, figures and still-lives. Born in Smilovichi, Belarus, in 1893, Soutine moved to Paris in 1913 and studied at the Academie Julian. Among his most notable works are the landscapes of the Côte d'Azur and the Ile-de-France, which express the landscapes of a place that had become his home. His other works include The Red Battle, The White Table and the celebrated Carcass of Beef, which became a symbol of Soutine's approach to painting and is renowned for its intense colors and vigorous brushwork. Within the context of art history, Soutine's works have been seen as a synthesis of the French Post-Impressionism and early expressionism of the Viennese School.
