CAT HOUSE Residential is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of minimalist modern aesthetics with pet-friendly functionality, completed in Taipei between 2016 and 2018. The 52-square-meter residential space, designed by Kao Shih Chieh, demonstrates exceptional spatial planning through its open-concept layout that seamlessly connects the living room and master bedroom areas. The design's distinguishing features include the strategic use of wood grain materials across ceiling elements, storage cabinets, platforms, and door pieces, creating a sophisticated yet unadorned aesthetic that emphasizes natural beauty. The project's ingenuity lies in its thoughtful reconfiguration of the original floor plan, where the designer reversed the living room and bedroom orientations to optimize circulation patterns and create a more intuitive living space. The interior incorporates innovative solutions such as glass doors for kitchen separation, allowing natural light penetration while maintaining spatial definition, and adaptable blind systems on both balconies for customizable lighting control. The design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in addressing both human and feline needs through intelligent space utilization. Notable design elements include Italian imported tiles featuring imitation sandstone for the television wall, creating a natural aesthetic harmony, while the strategic placement of a low table at the bed's end serves as a dedicated cat resting area. The space's versatility is enhanced through the use of elastic curtains rather than permanent walls, enabling dynamic space definition while allowing pet owners to maintain visual connection throughout the residence.
