Cat And Mouse Beer Bar

Cat And Mouse Beer Bar

Cat and Mouse Beer bar is an innovative interior design project located in the historic Kapana district of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, exemplifying a sophisticated blend of contemporary design with historical preservation. This architectural intervention, realized within a century-old three-story building, transforms a modest 40-square-meter ground floor space into a multifunctional establishment that serves as both a craft beer bar and a showcase for local artisanal furniture. The design philosophy, centered on 'urban archaeology,' thoughtfully integrates existing historical elements with modern aesthetics, preserving and highlighting original architectural features such as aged plaster walls and vintage flooring. The interior design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully employs a material palette comprising natural wood, plywood, and untreated steel elements, creating a compelling contrast against black walls and exposed brick surfaces. The space features distinctive design elements including invisible wire parapets, copper tubing installations, and repurposed industrial traps as lighting fixtures above the bar area. The establishment expanded to include an adjacent space, doubling its size to 40 square meters while maintaining design coherence through careful material selection and spatial planning. The venue serves multiple functions beyond its primary role as a craft beer destination, hosting regular community discussions, workshops on beer crafting, and serving as a platform for exploring traditional local gastronomy, thereby contributing to the cultural revitalization of Plovdiv's creative quarter.
