Casulo Display Cabinet is an innovative furniture piece that harmoniously blends contemporary aesthetics with organic design elements, created in 2021 in Paraty, Brazil. This sophisticated display cabinet, crafted from sustainable reforested African Mahogany, exemplifies the convergence of functional storage and sculptural artistry. Its distinctive design features elegant slats that gracefully undulate around the cabinet's perimeter, creating a cocoon-like enclosure that earned its name 'Casulo' (Portuguese for cocoon). The cabinet's dimensions of 800mm x 420mm x 1400mm house three spacious shelves and a drawer, providing ample storage while maintaining a visually lightweight appearance. The design draws inspiration from the natural surroundings of Brazil's Atlantic rainforest and ocean, resulting in a minimalist yet organic aesthetic that challenges traditional cabinet design conventions. The meticulous handcrafting process employs traditional woodworking methods, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship. The dispersed slat arrangement creates an interplay of light and shadow, contributing to its airy presence despite its substantial size. This piece, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022, represents a significant achievement in contemporary furniture design, successfully balancing aesthetic innovation with practical functionality. The design process involved extensive research into organic forms, utilizing CAD modeling to translate natural phenomena into refined, clean shapes, resulting in a hollowed-out interpretation of three wave forms that wrap around the rear and fold over the top.
