Casa Teppanyaki Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the traditional teppanyaki dining experience through a sophisticated residential lens, completed in Suzhou, China in 2018. This Silver A' Design Award-winning establishment spans 220 square meters and challenges the conventional industrial aesthetic typically associated with teppanyaki restaurants by introducing a warm, home-like atmosphere inspired by traditional Chinese architecture. The space features five meters high ceilings with distinctive pitched roofs and bright skylights, incorporating elements reminiscent of traditional Chinese courtyards to create an intimate dining environment. The design, conceived by Minyi Zhang, masterfully balances functionality with aesthetic appeal through the thoughtful selection of materials including white marble floor tiles, steel frame structures, and ancient castle gray marble, complemented by wooden accents and carefully curated floral art installations. The restaurant's layout encompasses five teppanyaki tables and a VIP dining room, with innovative semicircular iron plates designed to minimize visual bulk while maintaining operational efficiency. The interior's sophisticated lighting scheme creates dramatic shadow play, while the integration of vegetation and outdoor landscapes enhances the connection to nature. This design successfully merges Japanese culinary traditions with contemporary Chinese architectural elements, creating a unique dining destination that earned recognition at the A' Design Award & Competition for its exceptional approach to commercial interior space design.
