Casa Lupita Residential House

Casa Lupita Residential House

Casa Lupita Residential House is a distinguished residential architectural project located in Merida, Mexico's Historic Center, exemplifying a masterful fusion of colonial heritage and contemporary design sensibilities. This significant architectural achievement, completed in October 2019, encompasses a comprehensive restoration of a protected nineteenth-century casona while introducing modern living elements within its historic framework. The project, spanning 320 square meters on an 11 x 30-meter lot, demonstrates exceptional attention to architectural preservation and innovation through its careful integration of traditional colonial building techniques with modern construction methodologies. The design philosophy centers on the juxtaposition of colonial and contemporary architecture, achieved through the restoration of the original structure and the strategic demolition of a 1960s addition to reinstate the traditional central patio layout. The project employs a sophisticated combination of traditional materials and techniques, including vigueta and viguetilla construction methods, chukum finishes, and masonry walls, alongside contemporary elements such as reinforced concrete and steel structures. The restoration process required meticulous adherence to heritage site guidelines while successfully updating the space for modern living requirements. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category stands as a testament to the successful revival of historic architecture, demonstrating how careful restoration and contemporary design can coexist harmoniously while preserving cultural heritage.
