Cartoon House Residential Space

Cartoon House Residential Space is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the fusion of fantasy and functionality in contemporary living spaces. Created by designers Bo Lee, Junmin Ho, and Ping Xu, this 80-square-meter space represents a sophisticated interpretation of cartoon aesthetics tailored for a young female resident with a particular affinity for Japanese animation. The design seamlessly integrates whimsical elements with practical living requirements, featuring distinctive components such as transparent bed pillars, dramatic drop lighting fixtures, and thoughtfully curated cartoon-inspired decorative elements that extend from the walls to the ceiling and floor. The space encompasses both a bedroom and study area, where the narrative of cartoon elements flows continuously yet transforms subtly between spaces. The study room employs translucent polycarbonate bookcases set against a textured volcano background, complemented by Ukiyoe fabric and filtered natural light through semi-translucent grille sliding windows. The design's material palette includes pure wood surfaces for the ceiling, walls, and floor, creating a clean canvas that balances the playful decorative elements. Crystal bed pillars and bright yellow bell-shaped pendant lighting create focal points that anchor the space between fantasy and reality. The project, completed in 2016 and recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining utilitarian functionality with dramatic aesthetic elements, creating an immersive environment that successfully realizes the client's vision of living within a cartoon-inspired world while maintaining sophisticated design principles.
