Capital Restaurant & Lounge is an award-winning hospitality design project that masterfully reimagines the ambiance of 1920s classic American establishments in a contemporary context. Located in Surabaya, Indonesia, this sophisticated dining and entertainment venue exemplifies a thoughtful integration of historical aesthetics with modern functionality. The interior design scheme employs a rich palette of materials, including dark timber paneling, exposed white brick walls, timber flooring, and decorative mosaics, creating a harmonious blend of timeless elegance and contemporary sophistication. The space is strategically divided into four distinct zones: a semi-outdoor dining area, indoor dining section, private room, and an impressive bar featuring a 12-meter granite top counter complemented by a striking mural and DJ station. Notable design elements include vintage-inspired light fixtures, classic furniture pieces, and carefully curated decorative elements such as gramophones and vintage suitcases from personal travel collections, which contribute to the space's authentic historical narrative. The establishment's architectural features include metal-framed windows spanning the facade, allowing natural light to permeate the interior while offering unobstructed exterior views. A sophisticated wine display, incorporating wine crates arranged against rustic metal racks, serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. The project, completed in May 2011, was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial design, material selection, and atmospheric creation. The design successfully addresses the contemporary demand for well-designed, stylish yet informal dining spaces, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail in lighting design, which creates a dramatic yet intimate ambiance throughout the venue.
