CANICA Retail / Office is an innovative interior design project that masterfully integrates retail showroom functionality with office workspace, distinguished by its unique Timber House concept that revolutionizes the traditional showroom experience. Designed by Louis Lau and Agnus Wong, this 108-square-meter space exemplifies a harmonious blend of form and function, featuring a welcoming showroom area seamlessly merged with a practical working environment. The design's ingenuity lies in its innovative approach to product display, where timber products are incorporated directly into the interior finishes, allowing customers to experience materials in their applied context rather than through conventional wall-mounted displays. The space planning demonstrates exceptional efficiency, accommodating eight staff workstations, a manager's office, and a dedicated 100-square-foot storage area for timber products. The designers overcame the challenge of material monotony by skillfully employing various timber types with different colors and finishes, creating visual interest and focal points throughout the space, particularly in the entrance area. This sophisticated approach to material application not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also functions as an interactive product showcase, enabling customers to easily understand and select appropriate timber products for their needs. The project, completed in Hong Kong in 2013, represents a significant achievement in retail and office design, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial innovation and functional design integration.
