Cafe Modi Retail Store

Cafe Modi Retail Store

Cafe Modi Retail Store is an innovative retail and coffee establishment that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of contemporary commercial design with artistic sensibilities, located in Guangzhou, China. Designed by Yang Yuewen, this 99-square-meter space masterfully combines coffee service, product display, and artistic exhibition functions within an irregular floor plan. The design concept draws inspiration from the artistic language of Amedeo Modigliani, translating his distinctive style into spatial elements through a sophisticated material palette of brushed bronze, terrazzo, texture paint, mirrored stainless steel, and marble. The space's architectural identity is characterized by its thoughtful integration with an adjacent art exhibition space, connected through carefully designed archways that serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. The interior layout creates an intuitive circular flow pattern that enables visitors to navigate freely while engaging with both the retail and coffee service areas. Notable for its minimalist approach to overcoming spatial constraints, the design successfully balances classical and contemporary elements to create an open, comfortable commercial environment. The project, completed in 2018, demonstrates exceptional versatility in its ability to adapt product displays according to concurrent art exhibitions, establishing itself as a dynamic retail destination that earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for its innovative spatial solutions and artistic merit.
