Cactus Glass Alcohol Glass is an innovative ceramic drinkware design that reimagines the traditional shot glass through a biomorphic interpretation of the prickly pear cactus fruit, creating a unique sensorial drinking experience particularly suited for tequila and mezcal consumption. Developed in Mexico between May and November 2014 by industrial designer Miguel Silva Vázquez, this distinctive vessel features a carefully crafted bumpy surface texture and matte glaze finish that engages multiple senses during use. The design, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, combines modern 3D printing technology with traditional ceramic casting techniques to achieve its distinctive form. Standing at 80mm in height with a 55mm diameter, each piece is meticulously finished with a multi-color glazing scheme featuring pink interiors and white, red, and green exterior surfaces. The design's emphasis on tactile interaction and visual appeal transforms ordinary drinking moments into memorable experiences, whether used in domestic settings or professional establishments. The development process involved extensive material research to formulate the perfect glaze combinations, addressing the challenge of limited ready-to-use formulas in Mexico. This thoughtful approach to drinkware design demonstrates how cultural elements can be successfully translated into functional objects that enhance social interactions and celebrate traditional beverages through contemporary design language.
