This 85-square-meter weekend retreat, designed by architect Isamu Kanda, demonstrates exceptional engineering prowess through its cantilevered structure supported by nine hand-poured concrete footings, allowing the building to maintain minimal impact on the granite landscape while maximizing spectacular valley views. The residence's distinctive faceted geometry reflects both the evolutionary needs of its growing family occupants and the architectural response to site constraints, creating a dynamic form that appears to transform when viewed from different angles. The project masterfully combines custom design elements with advanced prefabrication technologies, utilizing Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems for precise wood framing components, which significantly reduced construction time and site disturbance. The exterior features a sophisticated material palette including standing-seam aluminum panels and tongue-and-groove cedar boards, while the interior showcases pine boards for floors, walls, and ceilings, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
