C01 Residential is an award-winning architectural and interior design project completed in 2020 in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, China, that exemplifies a sophisticated approach to private residential space design. The project, designed by Liang Chen, encompasses a thoughtfully conceived three-level structure featuring one level above ground and two levels underground, with a total indoor area of approximately 300 square meters including a sunken courtyard. The design philosophy centers on the creation of meaningful spatial experiences while challenging conventional stylization approaches, resulting in a unique aesthetic that emerges from deliberate de-stylization efforts. The residence incorporates several distinctive architectural elements, including an innovative structural framework where beams and pillars create a harmonious vertical and horizontal interplay. The interior design is characterized by its minimalist approach, emphasizing spatial organization over decorative elements, and features custom-designed elements such as a full-height bookshelf with ladder access and a specialized wine cabinet. A notable design element includes the integration of a golden western kitchen on the first floor, which adds artistic dimension through calculated material selections and color relationships, balancing high and low purity tones while preserving natural textures. The project, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates particular sensitivity to the needs of its artist-owner, incorporating dedicated spaces such as a studio, tea room, and areas specifically designed for artistic contemplation and creative pursuits.
