C/C Illuminated Seat

C/C Illuminated Seat

C/C Illuminated seat is an innovative public seating installation that masterfully combines functionality with artistic illumination, designed by Singapore-based installation artist Angela Chong. This sculptural piece, measuring 330 x 330 x 90 centimeters, is constructed from 80 pieces of 15mm thick acrylic sheets, ingeniously assembled to form two opposing C-shaped structures that symbolize the transition from clear to colors and facilitate public conversation. The design's sophisticated engineering incorporates 350 LED nodes housed within its base, programmed through Color Play 3 technology to create dynamic light displays, transforming the clear acrylic structure from a subtle daytime presence to a vibrant nocturnal light show. The installation's technical excellence lies in its careful consideration of both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal, featuring rounded edges for safety and strategic stainless steel bolt connections that ensure stability while maintaining visual elegance. The piece represents a significant achievement in public space design, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to combining practical seating with interactive lighting technology. The design's conceptual depth extends beyond its functional aspects, as it aims to foster social interaction and cultural connection through its inviting form, while its material properties exploit the unique characteristics of acrylic to create an engaging interplay between light and transparency, demonstrating exceptional innovation in both technical execution and social purpose.
