Bleach

Bleach is a chemical compound that is widely used as a cleaning and disinfecting agent. It is a strong oxidizing agent that is capable of breaking down organic materials such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The most common form of bleach is sodium hypochlorite, which is a pale yellow liquid that has a strong odor and is highly reactive. Bleach is commonly used in households, hospitals, and industries for various purposes such as whitening clothes, disinfecting surfaces, and treating water. The history of bleach dates back to ancient times when people used various substances such as vinegar, lemon juice, and lye to whiten clothes and disinfect surfaces. However, the modern form of bleach was first discovered in the late 18th century by a Swedish chemist named Carl Wilhelm Scheele. He discovered that chlorine gas could be dissolved in water to produce a bleaching solution. Later, in the 19th century, a French chemist named Claude Louis Berthollet discovered that sodium hypochlorite could be produced by reacting chlorine gas with sodium hydroxide. Bleach is a highly reactive substance that can cause irritation and damage to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system if not used properly. It should be used in a well-ventilated area and protective gear such as gloves and goggles should be worn while handling it. Additionally, bleach should never be mixed with other cleaning agents such as ammonia or acids as it can produce toxic fumes.
