Barthelemy Toguo

Barthelemy Toguo is a Cameroonian artist who works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video, and performance. His works paint a broader picture of his struggle for identity and self-determination. These issues are often addressed through his ironic use of traditional African art and cultural motifs. He is best known for his contributions to the contemporary art scene, such as his series of installations on the African diaspora. His work has been exhibited around the world, including at the National Museum of African Art in Washington, DC; The Louvre in Paris; The Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. His most famous works include the series of installations “The First and Last of the Warriors”, “Identity”, and “The Return of the Return of the Return”.
