Badminton Nets
Badminton nets are an essential component of the game of badminton. They are used to divide the playing area into two halves and to create a barrier that the shuttlecock must pass over during play. Badminton nets are typically made of nylon or polyester and are suspended between two poles, which are positioned at a height of 5 feet and 1 inch (1.55 meters) at the center of the court. The standard size of a badminton net is 20 feet (6.1 meters) in width and 2.5 feet (0.76 meters) in height. The net is divided into two equal halves by a white tape or string that runs along the top of the net. The tape or string is usually 3/4 inch (2 cm) wide and is placed over the center of the net to make it more visible to the players. During play, the shuttlecock must pass over the net and land within the boundaries of the opponent's court to score a point. If the shuttlecock hits the net and falls on the same side of the court as the player who hit it, the opponent is awarded a point. If the shuttlecock hits the net and falls on the opponent's side of the court, the player who hit it is awarded a point. In addition to being an essential component of the game, badminton nets also serve as a safety feature. They prevent players from accidentally colliding with each other and help to keep the shuttlecock within the playing area.
