9440 Rals Area Lighting System
9440 Rals Area Lighting System is an innovative portable LED area lighting solution that revolutionized remote area illumination through its sophisticated design and environmental consciousness. Developed in 2009-2010 under the direction of Neil Walker and his team, this groundbreaking lighting system represents a significant advancement over conventional incandescent area lighting technologies. The system features a streamlined tripod design that enables rapid deployment in under 20 seconds, while its telescoping mast extends to 215.8 centimeters to provide optimal illumination coverage. At its core, the system utilizes 10 high-efficiency LEDs that deliver 2,400 lumens in high mode and 1,200 lumens in low mode, powered by a maintenance-free NiMH battery system that provides up to 6 hours of operation. The design's emphasis on portability is evident in its compact 95-centimeter stowed length and lightweight 7.3-kilogram construction, making it ideal for deployment in challenging environments where traditional generator-powered lighting systems are impractical. Manufactured entirely in the United Kingdom using advanced electronic pick-and-placement machines and 200-tonne injection molding equipment, the system demonstrates exceptional build quality and durability. Its innovative approach to portable illumination, which eliminates the need for fuel-driven generators and their associated noise and emissions, earned it the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, recognizing its significant contribution to sustainable lighting solutions. The system's combination of robust construction, environmental responsibility, and practical functionality has established new standards in portable professional lighting equipment.
