24 Frames Of Lightwell Rebirth Experiential Retail Store

24 Frames of Lightwell Rebirth Experiential Retail Store is an innovative architectural renovation project that transformed a 50-year-old building in Taipei into a multifunctional experiential retail space, seamlessly integrating commerce, fashion, art, and nature. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a groundbreaking approach to urban regeneration through its minimal environmental impact and thoughtful preservation of existing architectural elements. The project spans 353 square meters and is distinguished by its signature 24 frames concept, a lightweight architectural intervention applied to the building's lightwell and facade that creates dynamic interactions between interior spaces and natural surroundings. The design philosophy emphasizes sustainable renovation over reconstruction, offering an alternative solution to urban development that preserves the city's architectural fabric while introducing contemporary functionality. Notable features include the innovative reinterpretation of traditional materials, such as modern terrazzo panels juxtaposed with restored original terrazzo staircases, and the careful preservation of historically significant elements from Taiwan's 1960s architectural vernacular. The project, completed in May 2020, demonstrates exceptional expertise in combining historical preservation with modern retail requirements, creating an immersive environment that enhances visitors' sensory experiences through thoughtful spatial design, material selection, and lighting strategies. The renovation process required extensive research and innovative solutions to overcome the challenges of restoring period-specific construction techniques and materials, including the preservation of unique elements such as goose yellow terrazzo staircases, scattered wood-patterned concrete ceilings, and neon green mini tiles characteristic of Taiwan's architectural heritage from the 1960s-1980s.
