15° Interaction Lamp

15° Interaction Lamp is an innovative lighting fixture that explores the delicate interplay between asymmetry and balance in industrial design, created by designer Yizhou Chen. This sculptural lighting solution, standing at 54 inches in height with an 18-inch square base, transforms the conventional concept of illumination into an interactive experience that engages users' inherent desire for order and equilibrium. The lamp's distinctive design features a pivoting shade mechanism that operates through a sophisticated magnetic and rail system, allowing users to control illumination through an intuitive push-pull interaction with the lamp's fin-like element. The design philosophy transcends traditional two-dimensional approaches, embracing a three-dimensional form that challenges conventional lighting aesthetics while maintaining functional practicality. Crafted through a combination of advanced digital modeling and traditional craftsmanship, the lamp employs precision CNC manufacturing, laser cutting technology, and careful material preparation including wood working and acrylic bending techniques. The project, which was developed between December 2015 and March 2016, represents a significant exploration of semantic design principles and form study, examining how product function and form language can define meaning and enhance understanding of human interaction with objects. This innovative approach to lighting design earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing the boundaries of lighting design through its unique combination of aesthetic appeal, functional innovation, and user interaction.
