Beginning of the Time Hospitality Space is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of natural elements with contemporary architectural aesthetics, created by designers Li-Ling Chang and Chin-Yun Kuo. This 6,611.6-square-meter hospitality space, completed in October 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan, draws inspiration from Haruki Murakami's literary works to create a spiritual forest-like sanctuary within an urban context. The design's distinctive feature lies in its sophisticated use of stone materials, particularly grey marble and antique facing stone, which create a visual narrative reminiscent of mountains, clouds, and flowing streams. The space employs innovative architectural elements, including a dramatic sloped ceiling that channels natural light to evoke the atmosphere of primitive caves, while ink-sprayed landscape stone pillars in the intermediary corridors generate a misty, tranquil ambiance. The design's philosophical approach manifests in its careful manipulation of light and shadow, creating a kaleidoscope-like fantasy world that temporarily transports visitors away from everyday reality. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, is particularly noteworthy for its minimalist color palette and the strategic introduction of natural light that enhances the material textures. The service counter in the lobby, formed by the intersection of two scenic stone slopes, exemplifies the design's functional integration with aesthetic elements, while the symmetrical spatial arrangement ensures a comfortable sensory experience that aligns with the project's goal of creating a contemplative, community-oriented environment.
