Between Residential House is an award-winning residential interior design project completed in Taiwan that exemplifies the harmonious integration of Taoist philosophy with contemporary living spaces. The 395-square-meter residence, comprising 168 square meters of indoor space and a generous 227-square-meter balcony, was meticulously designed to create a serene living environment that emphasizes the connection between inhabitants and nature. The design philosophy centers on the Taoist concept of doing nothing, achieved through minimal intervention and thoughtful preservation of original architectural elements such as grey cement floor slabs, existing pipelines, and a small pond. The project, completed in 2018, features carefully selected materials including wood, glass, and raw hardware to create clean lines while maximizing natural light penetration. A distinctive aspect of the design is its focus on creating a comfortable living space for the owner's mother, incorporating elements that promote relaxation and contemplation, such as an expansive balcony where residents can enjoy natural elements like wind, sunlight, and the gentle movement of bamboo leaves. The interior layout includes an open kitchen concept that serves as both a culinary space and a gathering area for family members. The project's commitment to simplicity and natural harmony earned it a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its innovative approach to spatial design and its successful integration of traditional philosophical principles with modern living requirements.
