BAMBOO FOREST Closet is an innovative furniture design that reimagines traditional Korean open storage through a contemporary feminist lens, created by designer SANG YOON KIM. This distinctive piece, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, represents a harmonious fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics. The design features a unique structural composition where the top and bottom wood panels, crafted from White Ash and Paulownia coreana wood, are connected through a series of vertically drilled holes, interconnected by flexible strings that create a curtain-like effect. This innovative approach transforms the conventional silhouette of a storage unit into a more feminine and mysterious form, evoking the imagery of pottery hidden within a bamboo forest. Measuring 1,400mm in width, 500mm in depth, and 800mm in height, the piece incorporates laser-processed steel plates and decorative binding techniques that mimic sewing patterns, adding a distinctive tactile and visual element to the design. The conceptual foundation of this work stems from a project aimed at creating new traditions by merging Korean traditional furniture with contemporary engineering approaches. The design successfully challenges conventional storage solutions while maintaining functionality, creating an emotional narrative that resonates with modern users, particularly appealing to women consumers.
