Baoshan U World Mixed Use is an innovative mixed-use architectural development located in Luodian, Baoshan - a suburban district of Shanghai, that exemplifies contemporary urban design principles through its integration of commercial, residential, and community spaces. The project, completed in 2017, encompasses a total construction area of 30,511 square meters on a 14,555-square-meter plot, featuring a sophisticated combination of retail spaces (7,060 sqm), office areas (8,400 sqm), and residential apartments (5,590 sqm). The design employs a penetrable perimeter block concept that creates an active public interface through continuous building facades along city roads while incorporating multiple pathways and small plazas that lead to a vibrant central courtyard. This architectural solution effectively addresses the challenges of suburban development by prioritizing pedestrian accessibility and human-scale interactions in an area traditionally dominated by automobile-centric planning. The project's distinctive material palette combines red brick tile with gray aluminum panels, creating a warm and sophisticated urban campus atmosphere. The structural innovation lies in its unique integration of steel construction with a window-wall system, particularly notable for its protruding window features. The development's ground floor is dedicated to community facilities and entertainment venues, maintaining street-level vitality, while creative offices and apartments are strategically positioned along the perimeter, surrounding a central community service building that serves as a social and fitness hub.
