Blind House

Blind House is an architectural masterpiece and urban sanctuary located in Bangkok, Thailand, designed by architect Boonlert Hemvijitraphan as a harmonious blend of meditation space and residential dwelling. This innovative structure, completed in 2013, encompasses 350 square meters and exemplifies contemporary architectural principles through its striking floating appearance and thoughtful spatial organization. The design features a transparent ground floor with main living areas enclosed by glazed facades, while a dramatic concrete plane appears to hover above, supporting the second story. The structure's most distinctive elements include an origami-inspired sculptural hill that ingeniously incorporates a sunken garage and shrine, complemented by strategic hedge placement that conceals the upper level from view. The upper floor is elegantly clad in platina metal lattice, offering privacy while maintaining natural light filtration. The building's technical achievement is particularly evident in its 31-meter-long floating concrete slab, supported by lean steel columns and a concrete tunnel bearing wall, allowing for a remarkable 13-meter protrusion. The interior design embraces minimalism and natural materials, creating an atmosphere conducive to Zen living and meditation. The circulation path thoughtfully guides residents from an arrival court through various experiential zones, including a reflective pond, living areas, and a dedicated walking meditation path. This exceptional architectural achievement was recognized with the Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to combining functional residential design with spiritual considerations.
