Beyond The Flow Commercial Space is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of natural elements, architectural ingenuity, and functional aesthetics in commercial space design. Located in Taichung, Taiwan, this remarkable transformation of a 1960s US military dormitory into a sophisticated yakiniku restaurant spans 280 square meters across two floors, accommodating 48 seats on the ground level while maintaining a private workspace above. The design concept draws inspiration from cave-like, porous systems, featuring curved tunnel systems internally juxtaposed with geometric squares externally. Natural laterite containing diatomaceous earth forms the interior walls, providing superior humidity tolerance, odor absorption, and thermal regulation. The integration of rice straw introduces natural air purification properties, effectively managing the challenges of restaurant ventilation. The space is distinguished by its innovative approach to smoke management through hidden ventilation systems, eliminating the need for overhead equipment while maintaining aesthetic integrity. Arc-shaped pathways create seamless transitions between spaces, while strategically placed geometric apertures facilitate the natural flow of light and fragrance throughout the interior. The design's sophisticated lighting system, incorporating arched light strips and carefully positioned bulbs, creates an infinite ring optical illusion through reflective glass panels, seamlessly blending the exterior and interior spaces.
