Boundary Rug is an innovative textile design that reimagines traditional floor covering through the lens of cartographic aesthetics and social commentary. Created by Swiss designer Yunhyun Park, this distinctive piece transforms topographical map elements into an elegant home furnishing that measures 2 meters by 1.6 meters, though its dimensions can be customized. The design deliberately breaks from conventional rug patterns by featuring asymmetrical shapes and hand-drawn topographic patterns that represent regions of territorial dispute, thereby integrating social consciousness into interior design. Crafted from synthetic leather derived from recycled materials, the rug demonstrates a commitment to both durability and environmental responsibility. Its unique design approach challenges the traditional notion of rugs as merely decorative accessories by incorporating informative geographical elements that serve both aesthetic and intellectual purposes. The waterproof backing extends its functionality to outdoor spaces, while the distinctive topographical patterns create a compelling visual narrative that encourages viewers to contemplate broader social issues.
