Beijing Club Clubhouse

Beijing Club Clubhouse is an exemplary architectural renovation project that masterfully reimagines a traditional Chinese courtyard structure through contemporary design sensibilities. Located in Beijing, this 400-square-meter private clubhouse, designed by Isabelle Zhao Peng, represents a sophisticated fusion of historical architecture and modern aesthetics, particularly through its innovative concept of 'The Shade Rouge.' The design philosophy centers on preserving the building's original structural integrity while introducing contemporary elements that create a harmonious dialogue between past and present. The project's distinctive approach focuses on the interplay between built space and void, utilizing carefully selected materials including lacquer, mosaic, stucco, laminated glass, wooden veneer, and stainless steel. The courtyard, serving as the heart of the design, facilitates a profound connection with nature and traditional Chinese architectural principles while incorporating modern craftsmanship and innovative lighting techniques that emphasize the mottled red color scheme throughout the space. The renovation, completed in 2019, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in treating the junction between existing and new architectural elements, employing metal strips and separating seams to achieve seamless integration. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category stands out for its poetic interpretation of space, seasonal responsiveness, and ability to create an atmosphere where contemporary luxury coexists with historical architectural elements, offering a unique perspective on modern Chinese design sensibilities.
