Black Tulip Turkish Coffee Set is an innovative redesign of traditional Turkish coffee serving implements that masterfully blends cultural heritage with contemporary design aesthetics. Created by interior architect and designer Bora Yıldırım, this distinctive set transforms the conventionally cylindrical Turkish coffee cup into a striking cubic form, where the handles are seamlessly integrated into the geometric structure rather than protruding outward. The set comprises meticulously crafted porcelain cups measuring 60mm in all dimensions, complemented by square saucers (120mm x 120mm x 34mm) featuring specialized cavities to secure the cups and prevent slippage. A notable design element is the subtle upward curve on one corner of the saucer, facilitating easy handling while creating a visual metaphor of a tulip when placed on the accompanying tray. The tray itself, measuring 245mm x 245mm x 27mm, is constructed from molded plywood with a solid wood handle reaching 177mm in height, incorporating thoughtfully designed cavities for secure saucer placement. This sophisticated interpretation of traditional Turkish coffee service, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a harmonious synthesis of cultural symbolism and modern functionality. The design pays homage to the rich tradition of Turkish coffee, recognized for its unique preparation method and cultural significance as a symbol of hospitality, while introducing innovative features that enhance the serving experience through improved ergonomics and visual appeal.
