Armour Rings

Armour Rings is an innovative jewelry collection that represents a contemporary reinterpretation of medieval and oriental armor aesthetics, meticulously crafted through extensive research into historical shield suits and protective gear. This sophisticated series of rings, designed by Igor Komov in collaboration with Katerina Komova, Yuri Zotov, and Daria Kozlova, demonstrates a remarkable fusion of historical craftsmanship and modern design sensibilities. The collection, developed between October 2016 and March 2017 in Moscow, features distinctive pieces measuring 45x25x24mm for long variants and 26x25x24mm for short variants, crafted from brass, gold, and silver, incorporating leather laces and specialized finishing techniques including blackening and texturing. Each ring in the series showcases unique interactive elements, including an innovative lacing system and intentional phalanx fixation when worn, directly inspired by the functional joints found in historical armor pieces. The design process involved the creation and evaluation of more than 30 different metal textures before achieving the final aesthetic, demonstrating an exceptional attention to detail and commitment to authenticity. The collection's significance was recognized with a Gold A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to contemporary jewelry design through its innovative concept, artistic expression, and technical excellence. The pieces were notably exhibited at the State Historical Museum in Moscow, representing a significant achievement in translating historical defensive wear into wearable art pieces that bridge past and present design paradigms.
