Boko And Deko Residential House

Boko and Deko Residential House is an innovative residential architecture project completed in 2013 in Maebashi, Japan, that fundamentally reimagines the relationship between living spaces and their inhabitants. This groundbreaking design, conceived by architect Mitsuharu Kojima, challenges conventional residential architecture by creating a dynamic environment where residents can discover spaces that match their emotional states and daily needs, rather than being confined to predetermined room functions. The structure, measuring 6970mm x 12740mm x 5600mm with a total area of 124.71 square meters, features a distinctive tunnel-shaped layout oriented north-south, incorporating varying floor heights connected through an intricate network of ladders, steps, and slopes. The design's philosophical foundation rests on the premise that comfort should not be dictated by furniture placement but should emerge organically through the inhabitant's interaction with the space, similar to finding natural comfort spots in a forest environment. The building's innovative construction includes soundproof walls on the east and west sides, which double as load-bearing structures and storage solutions, with a dance studio integrated into the western section. The architects employed a thoughtful selection of materials for the floors, enabling residents to experience diverse tactile sensations including warmth, coolness, softness, and hardness. This revolutionary approach to residential architecture earned the project a Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, recognizing its exceptional contribution to architectural innovation and its success in creating a living space that evolves with its inhabitants' emotional and physical needs.
